Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a chemical solution directly into the varicose or spider vein. The solution causes the vein walls to swell, stick together and seal shut, stopping the flow of blood. As a result, the vein fades within a few weeks.
Varicose veins are caused by weak or damaged valves in the veins

  • A slight pinch of the needle is likely all you'll feel during your treatment. Some patients experience some discomfort or cramping during the procedure, or in the following few minutes after, but it doesn't last long.
  • 60% of varicose veins can disappear after an initial treatment, but it may take additional treatments to get the full effect
  • Veins make look worse after the treatment because the blood becomes trapped within the damaged spider vein, making the vein look dark and prominent under the skin. Bruising, irritation, redness or brown discoloration in the skin around the treated area(s) can be expected after treatment.
  • Be prepared to wear compression hose or socks post-treatment for the next 48 hours.
